My visit to Riviera Nayarit, Mexico in June 2021 had a dual purpose. I did business with some leisure. The trip provided a first-hand knowledge of the pandemic conditions in that area of Mexico. I wanted to see and experience the present Covid-19 situation. In addition, I wanted to know what safety protocols are in place for visitors. I have several clients going on vacation in Mexico. Therefore, the conditions in Mexico are of tremendous importance to my agency.
Presently, Mexico is one of the most popular destination post Covid-19 pandemic. Mexico was the only destination open during the pandemic. As a matter of fact, Mexico was the first to fully open to tourist. In addition, there are no restrictions to visit Mexico from the US. As a result, numerous US visitors are flocking to Mexico for their getaway vacation.
Travel mishap to Riviera Nayarit
The trip started with a mishap. American airlines (AA) postponed the connecting flight from Dallas to Cancun several times. The flight was eventually cancelled. AA had difficulty in getting a crew for the flight. In fact, several flights were cancelled out of Dallas that weekend. Bryan Del Monte, President of the Aviation Association attributed some of the cancellations to a shortage of staff.
I was fortunate to rebook the Cancun leg through Chicago for the following morning. The flight to Chicago was also delayed by a couple hours. The new reservation to Riviera Nayarit was on time. The flight was pleasant and arrived on time.
Villa Del Palmer Flamingo
The transfer to the resort was uneventful. I had reservations at the Villa Del Palma Flamingo in Riviera Nayarit. Mask was required on the premises of the resort. It was noticeable that several persons were not wearing their mask. Although mask is required it was not being enforced.
I was amazed at the conditions in Mexico. It was different than I anticipated. The pandemic appeared to be a world away. It felt like the pandemic was non-existence in Mexico. People were going about their normal activities. It is important to mention that the locals did wear masks.
Nuevo Vallarta is another name for Riviera Nayarit. The area is on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta. The majority of the popular resort brands are in that area. Most of the resorts are located on a beautiful stretch of beach.
Riviera Nayarit won five Travvy awards in 2020.
- Gold – Best Luxury Destination / Mexico
- Awarded Gold – Best Honeymoon Destination / Mexico
- Gold – Best Wedding Destination / Mexico
- Gold – Best Tourism Office (Mexico Riviera Nayarit)
- Silver – Best Culinary Destination / Mexico

The Riviera Nayarit area is popular for numerous eating places. There are numerous hiking trails in Riviera Nayarit. You can hike on the Mirador del Toro in northern section of Riviera Nayarit. The trail offers a breathtaking view of the ocean and the region’s cliffs.
Whereas Puerto Vallarta has a down-town that is bustling with activities during the evening. In addition, it is also a popular resort destination. A variety of activities like skiing, snorkeling, golf, and water sports are available.
In conclusion, the visit to Mexico was successful. I achieved what I planned. Going to Mexico was easy but the return was different. There are requirements for persons returning to the US. All returning passengers require a negative Covid-19 test to enter the US. You must remain in Mexico until you get a negative test. The additional expense is the responsibility of the traveler.
