Pearl Harbor on Oahu Hawaii

December 2019 will mark the 78th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. There will be several events during that week. To be exact, there will be programs to educate tourists on the history of the attack. Highly likely, there will also be tours of the bases and the veteran memorials. Above all, we must remember the U.S.S Arizona.

The Arizona was anchored in Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7, 1941. As a matter of fact, on that day Japanese aircrafts attacked the Pearl harbor. Several bombs, one of which penetrated the Arizona forecastle. It detonated her forward ammunition magazines. Moreover, it collapsed her forward superstructure, causing her to sink. In the end, there were losses of over 1,100 of her crewmen. More recently, in 1950 she is being used as a site for memorial ceremonies. In fact, The USS Arizona Memorial is a permanent shrine to those Americans who lost their lives. What is more, the attack on Pearl Harbor started the war in the Pacific.

Polynesian Cultural Center

A visit to Oahu Hawaii means nothing without a good-old-fashioned Luau. For just that, I would recommend the Polynesian Cultural Center on the Northern section of the island. A visit to the center is more than a luau. Without a doubt, it is an experience of the exploration, traditions, and lifestyles of seven cultures of the South Pacific.

More importantly, you will share in native activities at the Polynesian Cultural Center. For instance, the different villages include Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa, Tahiti, Hawaii, and Rapa Nui. Join the natives in dance, spear throwing and robbing sticks to create fire. There is also a canoe pageant during the afternoon. The local drinks and dancing expose you to new cultures and cultural party styles. After all, you will enjoy the preparation and appreciation for the feast. This is the most exciting part of the visit to the Polynesian Cultural Center. In fact, the luau is surely a memory you will never forget.

Diamond Head

You must visit the historical landmark, Lēʻahi. Commonly known as Diamond Head. However, this dormant volcano is one of Hawaii’s most exhilarating events. With two sets of stairs, a bathroom, and vending machines on the lengthy hike. A visit to Diamond Head is family friendly event. Also, along the Diamond Head trails are informative plaques, and landmarks. Also, there are abandoned bear caves along the trails that are open to tourists as well.
