Let me take you on a little storytelling journey into the heart of Puerto Rico. Yes, the enchanting tales of Old San Juan. Once upon a time, in the vibrant Caribbean, where the turquoise waters kissed the sun-soaked shores, there stood a magnificent fortress, a sentinel of centuries past – Old San Juan. This charming enclave is a cobblestone wonderland, with every alley humming with stories of yester year.

As I wandered through cobblestone streets, each turn revealed yet another treasure of a hidden café or a vibrant mural. My senses were in high alert. Walking through Old San Juan is like stepping back in time. The cobblestone streets have pastel-colored buildings adorned with wrought-iron balconies, and every corner has a story to tell. The streets are perfect for a leisurely stroll as there are boutiques, cafés, and historical landmarks. During my walk I came across the “Capilla del Cristo,” (Chapel of Christ). It is a small, yet historically significant chapel located in the Old San Juan district of Puerto Rico. Situated at the end of Calle del Cristo and near the historic city walls. This chapel is one of the most iconic landmarks of the city. Apart from being a serene spot for reflection, it has a fascinating legend behind the construction of the church.

The legend of Capilla Del Cristo

Built in the 18th century, the chapel has a fascinating backstory. According to legend, there was a miraculous event. A rider fell off the city wall during a race but survived without injury. They built a chapel in gratitude for this miracle. It has since become a place of devotion, with locals and visitors coming to pray for healing and protection.

The chapel is known for its beautiful altar, adorned with religious icons and gold details. While its interior is small, it is rich with history and offers a serene atmosphere amidst the bustling streets of Old San Juan. Over time, the chapel has undergone restorations to preserve its structure and religious artifacts. The Capilla del Cristo remains a beloved symbol of faith and local legend in Puerto Rico.

This mighty fort cradles thousands of secrets of battles and sea adventures within its massive walls. El Morro, or Castillo San Felipe del Morro, began its watch over the entrance to the San Juan Bay in 1539. The Spanish explorers constructed it to protect invaders approaching by sea.
