Snorkeling in Maui is rated very high among water activities on the island. Maui is also more popularly known for numerous beautiful beaches. I snorkeled on the Big Island and wanted to see how the other islands snorkeling would compare.
Snorkeling in Maui
I jumped at the idea of snorkeling in Maui during my recent stay on the island. It was a wonderful snorkeling experience with the company called the Four Winds II. The boat incidentally, was also called the Four Winds II. It was a unique and wonderful adventure for persons with limited knowledge like me. There were also veteran snorkelers on the trip. The experience was not only beautiful but was also comfortable, fun and safe. I must mention the wonderful crew. Their safety concerns were reinforced during our preparation period. They conducted a class for first time snorkelers. I found the information very helpful as it reinforced what I knew before. The session was so good that I felt safe and was able to focus on my snorkeling. They also had a lot of helpful gear for people who were not comfortable being in the water. There were flotation devices for kids and adults to keep us afloat so we could enjoy the snorkeling.
Snokeling in Molokini
We went to Molokini crater, a small island of Maui Makena coast. It is crescent-shaped and is a submerged volcanic crater. It is one of the popular snorkeling spots in Maui. There is another popular snorkeling spot which is called Coral Gardens. Molokini is a haven for beautiful coral reefs, tropical fishes and other marine species. Because of her shape, Molokini forms a cove that protects the marine life from the big waves. It is also a conservation district and Hawaii has declared the island a sanctuary for sea birds.
The weather was perfect for snorkeling in Maui although the water was somewhat cold. Due to the beautiful conditions we could see the stunning reefs, crabs and a variety of plant life. The cold water did not stop anyone from enjoying the beautiful floor bed of corals and marine life.
I considered the snorkeling in Maui on the Four Winds II amazing. I would recommend it to all persons visiting the island and wishing to snorkel.
